About Hope Project
True builders of hope
At Stellenbosch University, we believe that we are true builders of hope on the African continent, that we are set to blaze new trails with our science for society strategy and that we can take on some of the world's toughest challenges by putting our strengths and expertise at the service of human need.
The University's HOPE Project is about doing world-class research on local, regional and African challenges in state-of-the-art facilities with the best expertise available, while providing the best opportunities for learning and the growth of a new generation of thought leaders.
It aims to entrench Stellenbosch University as a leading tertiary institution of the 21st century. The University's three core functions - teaching and learning, research and community interaction - underpin its HOPE Project.
Through the HOPE Project, the University supports the international development agenda by focusing some of its key academic and research programmes on:
- Eradicating poverty and related condition
- Promoting human dignity and health
- Promoting democracy and human rights
- Promoting peace and security
- Promoting a sustainable environment and a competitive industry
The University supports these development themes through an array of academic initiatives proposed by academics and researchers. These initiatives serve as vehicles for innovative learning, new knowledge applications and extending the boundaries of science-based community engagement.
